There are a few critical differences between ROCK OFF stone guard for caravans and traditional mud flaps.

• Less drag. ROCK OFF’s brushes are far lighter than mud flaps, allowing greater airflow and creating less drag.
• Absorbs impact. Mudflaps tend to bounce stones off in unpredictable directions, whereas ROCK OFF’s bristles absorb the impact of the rocks, taking the force out of them.

ROCK OFF caravan stone guards is also different from spray suppressants. Spray suppressants are traditionally found on trucks, trailers, and buses. They’re designed to reduce the amount of water picked up by trucks, thereby improving visibility for other road users. ROCK OFF camper trailer stone guard has softer bristles, more flexible backing, and is far stronger than spray suppressants as it was developed to absorb the impact of rocks.

Your ROCK OFF is made with a heavy duty backing, however plastic does not have a “grain”, so if you are mounting the ROCK OFF from the back of your vehicle, it will need some structural stability.  Mounting the ROCK OFF without this additional structure could mean that, when driving at higher speeds, the ROCK OFF could shudder or vibrate.

We recommend fitting your ROCK OFF to a metal channel or angle bracket. You can drill through the upper part of the backing of the ROCK OFF and bolt it directly to the metal.  Once in a metal bracket, you can fix to the rear of your vehicle where needed.

For areas under your caravan or Motorhome, you can bolt this directly to the chassis where there is already a solid structure. Where you have a towing vehicle behind your caravan or motorhome, you can fix your ROCK OFF in the same way.

Busy Bee Brushware manufactures and sells the Rock Off® Towing Brush Strip. You will need to source your own fitting as a DIY project.

The backing of our Brush is heavy duty HDPE, however is does not have a grain, which means that it needs some structural support if you are fitting the brush to the back of your vehicle.

We recommend you contact your local 4×4 after-market specialist, trailer specialist or engineer/fitter who could give you some advice as to the best way to fit to your vehicle.

Our ROCK OFF® Towing Brush Strip can be drilled and fixed to an Angle Bracket or a C Channel for mounting behind your vehicle.

The ROCK OFF® Towing Brush Strip can also be cut into sections and mounted under the caravan as a secondary protection zone for your caravan’s pipework. You can bolt the brush directly to the chassis of the caravan/trailer.

The standard lengths available are 1200mm, 1500mm, 2000mm, and 2400mm.

When you measure your towing vehicle or caravan or motorhome, we recommend the size of the ROCK OFF should be no longer than the width of the vehicle. This is to meet the Australian Standards requirements for towing.  You do not want the ROCK OFF protruding as this will create its own airflow drag, and also increases the risk of you or your family catching yourselves on the edge.

Our ROCK OFF Towing Brush Strip is made in a 2-row staggered brush pattern to give the brush a dense coverage. If you need to cut the brush length to size, we recommend you mark the place where you need to cut.  Then using pliers, remove the bristle tuft immediately underneath.  That will give you a clear space to cut the backing with a hacksaw or dropsaw.  The bristles are individually “staple-punched” into the backing so pulling out one tuft will not impact any of the other tufts.

We offer standard Brush lengths of 1200mm, 1500mm, 2000mm and 2400mm.

We recommend you choose the next size up and you can cut the backing to the length required.

Measure from the top of the Mounting point to the ground, take off 100mm for clearance from the road, and then another 45mm for the backing of the brush.  That will be your bristle length needed.

We generally recommend approx 100-150mm for clearance to the road.  If the vehicle goes over ruts, you do not want your ROCK OFF to hit the ground, thereby creating it’s own kick up of dust and stones.

MEASURE THREE TIMES BEFORE YOU ORDER.  PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT TO CUT THE BRISTLES, YOU WILL FIND THIS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE!!

When measuring the trim length that you need, when we refer to Brush trim, that is the exact length of the bristle. You will need to add the length of the backing (45mm) to that measurement when considering overall length. Our customer feedback is that the brush is most effective when mounted with anywhere from 100mm to 200mm clearance from the road.

Minimum clearance is required so that the brush does not hit the ground and create its own stone kick up.

Remember:
This is a plastic bristle brush, so needs to be mounted away from the exhaust pipe. Both the heat of the exhaust pipe and the hot fumes that come from it can distort the bristles.

Convert to side pipes if you can, or contact us to discuss your exhaust placement.

ROCK OFF® is lighter, creates less drag and allows greater airflow than traditional solid mudflaps.

Our customers have also found that when a stone hits a solid mudflap it can bounce off, while the ROCK OFF® bristles absorb the impact of the stone and takes the energy out of the bouncing stones and rocks.  Means less risk to you, less risk to other drivers and less impact on the environment.

Helps to prevent damage to the front of your camper trailer of caravan, can also be fitted under your caravan to help protect your tanks, pipework and suspension.

We do not recommend trying to trim the bristle yourself. The Polypropylene bristle is dense and it is difficult to cut the bristle into an even line.   We have bristle lengths from 150mm in increments up to 400mm maximum.

This is a plastic bristle brush, so do not try to trim the brush with an angle grinder as this will distort the bristle.  If you do need a different bristle length, contact us to discuss a quote for custom cutting.

Measure twice, three times!  Recheck that you have allowed for 100mm clearance from the road, allow for the 45mm backing, and allow for any weight distribution when the caravan/trailer has been hooked up.

Truck and bus spray suppressants are designed to reduce the amount of water picked up by trucks and improve visibility for other road users. It has softer bristles and a flexible backing to fit around truck wheels.

Regular Spray Suppressants have a backing of 9mm, whereas our
ROCK OFF® is a strong HDPE backing measuring 45mm high by 25mm thick.  This allows for the thicker fibre and double the bristle of a conventional spray suppressant.

Beware of cheap imitations.  Our ROCK OFF is specifically designed to deflect stones.  It is a lot stronger than spray suppressants which are designed for water, not the rigours of off-road driving.

ROCK OFF® is made with crimped anti-static polypropylene fibre (1mm/0.040”), punched into a HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) backing.  Our backing has holes drilled into it and our semi automatic machines “staple punch” the bristles securely into the backing.

We source all our materials from local suppliers and the brush is made at our factory in Dandenong South, Melbourne.  Where possible, we source recycled HDPE for our backing.

This item is longer than 100cm, and classed as Oversize freight. This product cannot be shipped by Australia Post.  We ship these items via Courier and we offer a FLAT RATE Freight amount of $75.00 plus GST to anywhere in Australia.

For regional areas, if your local arrangements are to pick up from the post office or local freight depot, please specify this in the comment section when you are finalising your purchase.  There is a comment box in the checkout section so you can add any delivery details that will assist to get your freight to you efficiently.

For smaller bristle ROCK OFF brushes:

To protect the bristles, the ROCK OFF Towing Brush Strip is packed between heavy duty cardboard and placed into a heavy duty plastic sleeve. This ensures your brush can handle the normal rigours of road transport.

For longer bristle ROCK OFF brushes:

Your ROCK OFF brush is packed in heavy duty cardboard carton.

Please dispose of your packaging thoughtfully.  Re-Use, Recycle, Upcycle.

We manufacture this product at our factory in Dandenong South, Melbourne.  Generally we hold stock of each of the combinations of Brush Length and Bristle Trim.  If we have run out of stock of the item you have purchased, we can generally manufacture your ROCK OFF within a business day.

For some of the more popular sizes, there may be a delay of 2-3 business days for production.  We will contact you directly to provide you with an estimate.  This product is mainly shipped via StarTrack, TNT or for WA Northline is an option.  We will email you with tracking details as soon as the goods are booked for shipping.
